Dedication by the author to Szczęsny Jastrzębowski (1861-1928) ethnographer, amateur archaeologist.
Szczęsny Jastrzębowski opened a permanent ethnographic exhibition in Warsaw with Leopold Jankowski in 1892 (it continued the activities of the first Ethnographic Museum in Poland, founded in 1988 and liquidated in 1890) and became its first curator.
Jastrzebski's interest in folk culture manifested itself in his strenuous efforts to open the Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw and his subsequent work as a collector for it. To his great knowledge of folklore and his conscientiousness, Jastrzębowski owed the proposal to compile a scoralogy for the magazine Vistula, of which he was a long-time collaborator; however, financial difficulties prevented the printing of the scoralogy, which had already been compiled into five volumes. On the other hand, Jastrzębowski is the author of a useful ethnographic review of articles printed in "Gazeta Radomska" and one questionnaire for field research, as well as a index to volumes I and II of "Światowid".
Jastrzębowski was also the author of the first bibliography of prehistoric monuments. Jastrzebski's articles and contributions, numbering about 30 items, were published primarily in magazines: "Wisła" "Wędrowiec" "Tygodnik Ilustrowany" "Gazeta Radomska" "Biesiada literacka" "Kurier Warszawski" "Światowid" and others.
