Description:
Selection by Jerzy B. Wojcik and Miroslaw A. Supruniuk.
A new selection of texts by Mieczyslaw Grydzewski, founder and editor of the literary periodicals of the interwar period: "Skamander" and "Literary News" - the latter under changed names ("Polish, Political and Literary News" and "News") ran continuously in exile in Paris (from 1939) and London (from 1940) for forty years. The columns collected here, which were written between 1948 and 1969, he wrote for "News" under the title Silva rerum. The column quickly became one of the most interesting regular features of the weekly, where one would start reading.
A masterpiece of wit, slickness, fire! - said Juliusz Sakowski to Marian Hemar after reading one episode of Silva rerum. Jan Lechoń noted in his Diary after reading Silva in the 1954 Paris edition: "Grydzewski's two pages in the News about the 29 plays he saw in Paris are not reviews, not even columns, but a completely new kind and of a kind - a masterpiece."
It also includes an introduction by Jerzy B. Wójcik, a biography of Mieczysław Grydzewski by Mirosław A. Supruniuk, a bibliography and an index of items.
