Description:
Edition 1. One of the most famous books by Zbigniew Herbert! The wrapper was designed by Andrzej Heidrich.
A collection of essays by Zbigniew Herbert, dedicated to the culture and art of Italy and France.
The sketches were created as a result of Herbert's trip around Europe, which he took from May 1958 to April 1960. The author himself wrote: The book I am submitting to the Publisher will be a collection of sketches from Italy and France. They will be devoted mainly to issues of art, especially to earlier periods, less known in Poland. [...] In the sketches I try to combine information with direct impression, also taking into account the human background, landscape, mood and color of the places described. However, in a word from the author, included at the beginning of the book, he wrote: What is this book as I see it? A collection of sketches. A report on a journey. The first a real journey through cities, museums and ruins. The second - through books on the places seen. These two visions, or two methods, are intertwined.
