"Tadeusz Epsztein, describing the library of Kalikst Dunin-Borkowski of Klimashovka in Podolia, writes: "Kalikst Borkowski began to develop his love of collecting as a young man. He took over various family collections from his father, and a little later from his brother Klemens, including the library, which may have consisted of fragments of former collections, from the Czartoryskis, previous owners of the Klimashovka estate, and from the Kamieniec Jesuits, since their estate (Armenians) was acquired by Kalikst's father, Michal Borkowski, in 1800. The library Borkowski inherited was seriously enlarged by systematic purchases. He brought Polish and foreign books from the Kingdom of Poland (from Warsaw) through booksellers, and acquired some directly while traveling, even abroad." Among the books he owned, religious literature occupied an important position. In addition to the Holy Scriptures in Klimaszowka were the writings of the Fathers of the Church, St. Ignatius, St. Francis de Sales, Thomas à Kempis, Peter Skarga's "Sermons from the Holy Days" and the sermons of John Paul Woronicz. In addition to these, one could also find Joseph Zochowski's "Life of Jesus Christ," "Lives of the Saints," or various studies on the principles of Christian life (for example, Fr. J. Gaume's work "The Principles and Wholeness of the Catholic Faith, or a Lecture of its Historical, Dogmatic, Moral, Liturgical, Apologetic, Philosophical, and Social Principles from the Creation of the World to our Time"). There was also a sizable collection of prayer books and devotional books. The second section of the Klimashovets library contained historical books on Polish history and general history."
