Description:
Issue 1.
Library of Culture, vol. 267.
The author of this book was the only surviving Polish officer who happened to be near the Katyn forest at the time of the NKVD mass executions in 1940, and was also the first person to correctly pinpoint the area where the Polish servicemen's trail was broken off. He describes the sequence of events that landed him in the Kozelsk camp, a prison in Smolensk and Moscow, and then in Soviet gulags. From the perspective of thirty years, he summarizes the state of knowledge about Katyn, and reflects on the reasons why the Soviet authorities made this dramatic decision.
