Adolf Januszkiewicz (1803-1857) - participant in the November Uprising, Siberian, traveler, writer. Born in Nesvizh, son of Michal Merlo Januszkiewicz and Tekla née Sokolowska (a close relative of Kosciuszko), older brother of Eustachy, an emigrant bookseller, and Romuald Towiańczyk.
"...J. kept a detailed diary, modeled on the diaries of travels to India by V. Jacquemont. Written down day by day, it is characterized by great literary qualities, witty style and excellent Polish and plasticity of description. J's observations are insightful, giving a picture of Kazakh society stratified by class, exploited by family feudals and the tsarist administration. J. was also interested in Kazakh folklore, collecting legends, noting songs, writing down beliefs and customs." (PSB, VOL. 10, 1962-1964).
The diaries were supplemented with letters to his family and Gustav Zelinski, and were preceded by a comprehensive biography of the author written by Felix Wrotnowski.
